How it works
The Winterization Process
Every RV is different — components, bypass valve configurations, and water management panels all vary by make and model. We work through the process methodically to make sure nothing is missed.
Water Heater Prep
Power off the water heater (both electric and propane) and allow the tank to cool fully, or run a hot faucet until the heater water is used up. Never drain a hot water heater.
Drain All Tanks & Lines
Dump, flush and close all waste tanks. Open the fresh water drain valve, disconnect from city water, open low-point drains, and open every faucet (hot and cold sides) to let gravity pull the water out.
Bypass Water Heater & Blow Out Lines
Bypass the water heater to isolate it, then use a regulated air compressor (30–40 PSI) to blow out every water line — faucets, toilet, shower, outdoor spray ports and black tank flush inlet.
Add RV Antifreeze
Connect RV-specific antifreeze to the 12V water pump inlet (or city water inlet with a water management panel) and pump antifreeze through every faucet, toilet, shower and low-point drain until it runs steady pink. Pour antifreeze down each drain to protect the P-traps.
Winterize & Secure
Put batteries on a tender or remove and store them. Retract stabilizers, close all vents and external entry points, install pest screens on appliance exhausts, remove all food and valuables, and keep your RV insurance current.

Best Practices We Also Recommend
Beyond the plumbing, these steps protect your RV through the full winter:
- Wipe out sinks and place shower heads on a paper towel to catch residual drips
- Prop refrigerator doors open to allow air circulation over winter
- Put 12V coach batteries on a tender or remove and store in a freeze-free location
- Retract unnecessary stabilizers to reduce entry points for insects and rodents
- Pitch the rig slightly forward or backward to shed water from rain gutters
- Remove all food and cleaning supplies — including black tank treatments
- Blow out all water hoses and winterize external accessories (water softeners, etc.)
- Store pressure gauges and adjustable regulators in a location that will not freeze
- Close all roof vents and install pest screens on refrigerator, water heater and furnace exhausts
- Remove all valuables and easily pilfer-able items
- Keep your RV insurance policy up-to-date through winter storage
